It’s that time again where we discover which sensational shade (or shades) will be paving the way for 2021 trends, as Pantone announce their colour of the year – hurrah!
So, drum roll please, in 2021 the colour everyone will be talking about is 17-5104 ‘Ultimate Grey’ and 13-0647 ‘Illuminating Yellow’. Yes, Pantone have chosen not one but two shades for the coming year, with cheerful yellow being a warming colour imbued with solar power, while grey encourages feelings of composure, steadiness and resilience.
Yellow, as a fresh, bright and positive colour, triggers feelings of clarity and calm. It’s also reminiscent of old Italian coastal homes which sit on winding streets or the sweeping fields which bask in the sun. Grey can be found in the architecture, fashion and its even a popular shade for the iconic Fiat 500 – a car synonymous to the country.
And if you’re swept away by the two Pantone shades and have an Italian wedding on the horizon, then why not expertly weave these sensational colours into your big day? Here’s how…
Your Wedding Accessories

The sunnier climes of Italy go hand-in-hand with Pantone’s preferred shade of yellow, and so incorporating it into your wedding accessories will really make for a feast for the eyes.
You can add yellow into your outfit in so many ways, from the bowtie on the groom to the hair crown on the bride. Or why not weave the colour into your bouquet of flowers? Yellow will partner perfectly with fiery oranges and dusky pinks, giving you an arrangement which harks back to the kaleidoscopic colours of Italian landscapes. And with yellow being a cheery in nature, it will immediately brighten up your wedding day. You can also intertwine the colour into your bridesmaids’ bouquets or scatter yellow petals on tablecloths or down the aisle – it will add brightness to your big day.
The groom could even accessorise his outfit with a touch of yellow, from cufflinks with character to pocket squares, adding a bohemian flair to the big day. A blooming buttonhole with sunny craspedia on show is another striking way to feature the shade or go bold and beautiful with some statement yellow shoes! Little, intricate additions of this spellbinding shade will add that pop of colour you’ve been looking for.
Your Wedding Outfits

If you want to incorporate yellow or grey into your wedding attire you could stir away from tradition and choose a dress in one of these beautiful shades, as a unique alternative.
The groom or groomsmen could try a grey suit with a yellow boutonniere, jacket or tie. For the bridesmaids, yellow can only but brighten up your wedding party. From soft buttercup to marigold, dresses in this colour partner perfectly for an Italian wedding in summer. Grey bridesmaids’ dresses are undeniably elegant, from long gowns to shorter styles, and a bouquet of yellow flowers for each bridesmaid will make for a charming blend.
Your Wedding Transportation

The Fiat 500 is as synonymous to Italy as pasta is, and so if you’re in the country to tie the knot then why not use this iconic car in yellow or grey. All eyes will be on you on your wedding day, and even more so as you zoom off in this quirky vehicle, plus it’ll make for a great photo opportunity too. Trail some flowers from the back and the flash of yellow will set the tone for a real entrance and exit on your big day.
Not forgetting the Vespa – another Italian style icon, which has been fashionable since the ‘40s. You could opt for bright yellow or a soft shade of grey and zoom up to alter on this fun mode of wedding transport. With the brides’ veil and dress catching the wind as you go, it’s sure to make an impression and give you the Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck moment you’ve been longing for.
Your Wedding’s Backdrop

Italy is just a tapestry of sensational backdrops. You’ve got the rugged and mountainous areas of the far south, the backdrop of the Tyrrhenian sea, the winding streets paved with houses in an eclectic display of colour, and the rolling fields and vineyards. And while it might not be an easy task to find your ideal Italian wedding setting with such a diverse selection to choose from, there are some perhaps unobvious choices which will simply blow you, and your guests, away.
First of all, sunflower fields are rife in Italy, and they make for a sensational photo opportunity for wedding snaps or Elopement in Italy pictures. Right by the historic Villa Baroncino in Tuscany – a popular location for weddings – you’ll stumble across sunflower fields a’ plenty, and there’s no denying they’re the perfect Pantone colour of the year 2021.
Another totally spellbinding location is that of Lake Braies which really does tick the Pantone colour of the year box, with both of the shades present – what are the chances? This wow-worthy lake is wrapped by yellow trees and sits against the backdrop of slate grey mountains – we can’t quite believe it’s real! The Mac screensaver-esque backdrop would be quite the spot to snap your Italian wedding photos, just don’t fall in as we’re not sure the water reflects the usual Italian temperatures!
Your Wedding Stationery

Making your wedding invitations really brings your big day to life, as it marks the start of the journey to saying I do. Pantone’s colour of the year really is perfect for pretty wedding invites, and with summer weddings being popular with the warmer climes of Italy, a wedding invite with pops of yellow will really set the mood for what to expect from the big day. Or tone it down a little with grey by styling in some eye-catching calligraphy or an illustration. You could even pin a yellow flower to the invite to show off both Pantone shades.
We simply adore the on-trend sets made by our valued member Carta Muriel. Her eco-friendly wedding stationery is minimal, nature inspired and beautiful, which lends perfectly to the Pantone colours which in 2021 triumph nature, optimism and stripping back to simplicity.
Your Wedding Décor

Whether you’re exchanging vows in a 16th century castle in Tuscany, or enjoying a wedding feast by the Italian Riviera, you can weave yellow or grey into your Italian wedding through your chosen décor. From plates and bowls made from pottery to napkins or even in the form of limoncello- Yum!
Yellow helps reduce stress and makes people feel at ease, which is how your Italian wedding should be. Yellow paint can lighten up furniture, accents and even fabrics to brighten up the day, or even opt for a yellow wedding cake, because why not?
Grey and yellow are a match made in heaven for a summer wedding in Italy, and grey table linens on a wooden table is a contemporary choice, with yellow flowers perfectly placed on top in vases. As well, paper pom poms in the shades could work a treat or opt for a grey lined marquee with yellow table linen – now we’re talking!
We hope that this article inspires you to weave in the recently announced Pantone Colour(s) of the Year 2021 for your upcoming wedding in Italy! Go forth and get creative!
